The Flatliner. Self explanatory. You've been training and adding base mileage all winter and April is time to prove it. The Flatliner is a springtime running series held on the lower portion of Chestnut Ridge Park starting at 6:15 on Wednesday evenings in April. Wednesdays runners will tackle the challenge of a unique and hilly 3-mile loop of Chestnut Ridge's lower road section on what is never an easy walk in the park. The Flatliner series pits you against the ridge on twisty and hilly paved park roads. Race it or walk it-all are welcome to take part in the series or individual weekly events. Pre-register for the series and save time at check-in or sign-up at individual events every week.
Registration takes place weekly on race-day from 5:30pm at the Newton Road parking lot featuring plenty of parking (look for race tent). Rain, snow or shine(Unless Park is closed due to weather since this section is not plowed). Restrooms are available up at the Casino Building and you will need to enter via the main entrance to access the Casino. The lower road is typically still closed as the Park is readying for spring traffic. At this time of year the lower section of the Park is closed to traffic as well as Park facilities in this lower section. Winter is about over and runners take charge on this demanding and challenging course. On-line registration is open at the link above for the entire Series. $15 per event on-site weekly per race. Series t-shirts are available pre-order and are they slick. Series awards in 5-year age groups. Can you beat your best time? Beat your time & get a Hump Day race token after each race, every time you PR on this course!
After each race the party moves to the Byrd House in Orchard Park where entrants receive specials on food and drink and gather to discuss how much this course suqeezed out of them. At the final event awards will be distributed to series qualifiers(those who completed at least three events or best three times in their age group/division). If up to two rain-dates are needed best two times will count out of three events.
The Flatliner Series helps support HEART Animal Shelters of WNY.
A few more tidbits: This time of year the lower section of the Park where the Flatliner is held is typically closed to vehicle traffic as the County continues opening after winter. Every year is different based on snowfall and snow covered roadways. Please NO driving on any grass. Zero tolerance from Park police & Rangers regarding this matter. Pets are prohibited on-course during races.
Age groups & Category awards for those completing at least 3 of the 4 races, or your best 3 times: Overall Male, Female & Masters plus top three M/F in standard 5-year USATF age groups. U14 through 80+
If a race is postponed or canceled we will do our best to consolidate the series or extend by a week or so. We are at the mercy of the spring melt to ready this section of the course. Stay tuned here for course updates or the Facebook Flatliner page.
