Race#2 is cancelled due to............SNOW! Yes-of all things snow. This section of the Park is not plowed and usage depends on clear roadways. 8" of wet snow currently resides and with a heavy slush base this means we are a no-go for the April 18th event. Race #2 will resume on April 25th.
Hump Day just got hilly!
The Flatliner is upon us! You've been training and adding base mileage all winter and April is time to prove it! The Flatliner is a springtime running series held on the lower portion of Chestnut Ridge Park starting at 6:15 on Wednesday evenings in April. For four consecutive Wednesdays runners will tackle the challenge of a unique and hilly 3-mile loop of Chestnut Ridge's lower road section on what is never an easy walk in the park. The Flatliner series pits you against the ridge on twisty and hilly paved park roads. Race it or walk it-all are welcome to take part in the series or individual weekly events. Pre-register for the series and save time at check-in or sign-up at individual events every week.
Registration takes place weekly on race-day from 5:30pm at the Newton Road parking lot featuring plenty of parking (look for race tent). Rain, snow or shine. Restrooms are available up at the Casino Building. At this time of year the lower section of the Park is closed to traffic as well as Park facilities in this lower section (restrooms are open at the Casino building at this time of year typically). Winter is about over and runners take charge on this demanding and challenging course. On-line registration is open at the link above for the entire Series. $15 per event. Series t-shirts are available pre-order. Can you beat your best time? Beat your time & get a Hump Day race pin after each race, every time you PR on this course!
After each race the party moves to the Byrd House in Orchard Park where entrants receive specials on food and drink and gather to discuss how much this course suqeezed out of them. At the final event awards will be distributed to series qualifiers(those who completed at least three events or best three times in their age group/division).
The Flatliner Series helps support HEART Animal Shelters of WNY.
A few more tidbits: This time of year the lower section of the Park where the Flatliner is held is typically closed to vehicle traffic as the County continues opening after winter. This means restrooms are only available up at the Casino Building in the main lot. The Park roadway down to the lower section is typically closed as well-you will need to use Newton Rd. to access parking for the race. Please plan accordingly. Pets are prohibited on-course during races. Reminder: Park Rules state all dogs must be leashed at all times for the safety of our beloved pets and patrons. County Park's close at dusk.
Best three out of four race finishes count towards series awards. Age groups & Categories: Overall Male, Female & Masters. U19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, 70+ awards three deep M/F.
Directions to the start/registration: Take Rt. 219 (North or South) exit at Armor Duells. Make Right on Armor Duells and a right at the first light on Chestnut Ridge Rd. Go through first signal (Powers Rd.) and make a right on Newton. Park entrance is on the left featuring plenty of parking and race tent. The main Park entrance is further up Chestnut Ridge Rd. If the gates are open you can make a right after entering Park that way to get to the Newton Rd. lot.
